Here's to 2013.

Growing up my grandparents would tell me the older you get the faster time goes. Either they were right or the world is just spinning faster because seriously, is that another year gone!?

The last day of each year always brings with it a few moments when I stop and think about everything that's happened. Looking back, the beginning of this year seems like years ago. To remember the moments in January, Feburary and March almost feels like I'm hanging upside down being asked to whistle. I can do it, but it's difficult and makes my head hurt.

Here's to 2013.

January 7th the wheels hit the tarmac as I turned to look out the window with Sydney staring back at me. I made a promise to myself that I would be moving to New York. 3.5 months later I boarded a plane.

This year I've had more free time than I've had in the past 6 years of my life. This year I left Sydney and all that comes with it, I cried a lot at first when I ached for home but then I met some people that changed my days. I have welcomed into my life so many new faces, some have stayed, some have passed through. But those who have stayed I simply cannot even imagine life without them now.

I spent my first summer in New York. Sun, humidity, sweat, death subway rides, July 4th, the North Fork, boat rides, I tried my first s'mores and went clamming. I developed a liking for Sauvignon Blanc, I walked the Brooklyn bridge, friends from Australia visited, I went to Atlantic city, I now like spicy foods, I added a 7th tattoo, I went to Florida and celebrated my Uncles 85th birthday, I spent time with my Uncles when they visited New York. I went to Electric Zoo music festival, the US open and I celebrated my 24th birthday.

I fell even more deeply in love with New York.

Winter and Fall arrived.... I celebrated Halloween, loved the beautiful leaves, went to Philadelphia, picked pumpkins, fell over in front of a group of teenagers, changed my hair colour (many times), I got scared by a cow, Dave my bbbbestie visited, watched my first broadway show, watched my first snow fall, partied more that I've ever before, met even more people and changed visas and moved places and jobs.

I went home to Australia. I spent time in Sydney. I said goodbye to my childhood princess (my cat Starlight who made it 19 years with me), I watched my best friend marry her best friend, my other best friend became a wonder Mummy for the second time, I went back to Tassie and spent time with my Dad and grandparents, I stood on the beach in awe of its beauty and I took a deep breathe and loved life even more.

Oh and I graduated from the University of Sydney!

 Thank you 2013.

Never forget to take those photos.

And...

even if you fall flat on your face, you're still moving forward.

Keep moving.

R x
